I've watched the show many times and like us all, have a bit of hoarding tendancy in my blood.
I am infuriated by these "therapists" who want to enter a home and demand that a hoarder give their cherished possessions away or throw them in a dumpster. It just seems so cruel. I am not speaking about accumulations of filth and trash, but for those who seem to be extreme collectors. I mean, isn't a library a hoard of books...what makes a "collector" any different than a hoarder? It seems a collector has the money to afford a space to keep their treasures.
My question is: why not get these folks a storage area? Is it just the financial burden of a space to store their items? Man it would be the best and easiest solution to help seperate a hoarder from their possessions without the misery of seeing these collections thrown in the trash...it must kill a hoarder inside because it hurts me just to watch! A storage area would allow you to go visit and check on your things, know that they are there, and then get on to creating a clear, healthy living space.
Where does it end???? You get a storage area then they collect more crap and then you have to get another storage area. It just goes on and on. All the storage would do is prolong and worsen the problem. These people need some intensive therapy and need to have someone that loves them enough to say STOP.
