  • Dr. Callie Cargill

Dduring the bar scene with Miranda and Callie in the season finale, Miranda says that after the end of next year, Callie will be Dr. Cargill. Based on past misdirections of the writers, I'm putting the hypothesis out there that this is a clue to the direction of lthe Callie haracter in season 4.  I think that she will indeed become Dr. Longmore.  I don't think this is wishful thinking on my part I think it fits the pattern.  I'd be interested to lknow if others feel the same or have a different take on this clue.

You may have something, there!  In the past, they've been very good at misdirection.  The season 2 dvd commentary about love triangles makes it very clear that the producers want to give the audience what they want, but they enjoy injecting conflict.  I think season 4 will cover Calllie's last year of med school, and  will culminate with her graduation very near the wedding.  She will be frazzled trying to do both; I think that's going to be the main conflict in season 4.  Whether she takes Jim's last name will be a part of that conflict, and I think she's going to give Jeff a large voice in that decision.  Given what a great kid Jeff is, I think he will vote for Longworth.  I can't wait for season 4!

Interesting take mikosmom. I'm wondering though, whether callie will have a name conflict. It could be as you say that her situation with Jeff being Cargill and her being Longworth would be a stumbling block. Tere are other aggravations in relationships that can cause difficulties, but in the end \\I think our favorite people will persevere.

I LOVE this convo! And I do think that Callie will be Dr. Longworth by S4's end. Maybe Jim will adopt Jeff and taking the Longworth name won't be something that will be an issue for Callie if that happens?

I don't think it will be a cause of difficulty whether it's Cargill or Longworth because in the end it will be Dr. Callie Longworth. Love it! I too can't wait for Season 4.

Yes, I don't think that Callie is going to have a problem at all, I think she is going to go with Longworth for sure...it's beautiful sounding anyway...and how hard is it to change a few simple documents ....it's really pretty quick! ;)

Well, if Jim does not actually adopt Jeff, although that is a distinct possibility, but maybe a bit too soon to think about right now....she could be Dr. Callie Cargill-Longworth. That would keep the name connection between her and Jeff in place.
I think they will draw out the drama a bit in the S4 opener, not letting us know what her answer is right away. I feel they will find some clever way to prolong our agony over this, although, I have no doubt it will be a teaful but resounding, "YES". Jim's comment about having "no idea how we will make all of this work"....well, that's where the writers have their work cut out for them....and I am betting they absolutely are already hard at work figuring out just how "they ARE going to make it all work".

It's really not that hard, you just go to the municipal office and get a marriage license, it's actually one of the happiest days of your lives!! Because it's so sweet and so private, before the big wedding event and all of the people....those precious moments before all of that...

I always thought the writers were setting us up for Callie moving into Jim's place. Her house needs work, so she could either sell it, or fix it up and rent it out, and use that money from selling or renting to pay for her last year of medical school. Getting a job in one of the hospitals back in Fl. will be easy now that her and Miranda are friends. Miranda gets her fiance back with her, and Callie goes home to be with Jeff and her fiance!

Can you tell where I stand on this?! Breddgal, your thoughts mirror mine as to Callie and Jeff moving in with Jim; it just makes all kind of sense for all the reasons you point out....and I LOVE Jim's house, there would be much happiness there. And Jeff already has his own keys to the house, lol. But I hadn't thought of Miranda being an agent/ally in getting Callie back to Florida-like your thinking on this. It could work, and would be a nice plot element. And though I know we were supposed to hate her, I actually understood the role of Miranda and really enjoyed the actors' portrayal of the evolution of her thinking about Callie and their budding friendship. So I would love to see her stay in for a while because she, unlike another who shall remain nameless, CAN act. Love your thinking on this!

I always thought there was a reason that Miranda was engaged, so I'm just going along with that as a reason to help Callie get back to Fl. And Jim's house is amazing, and we should see more of it. And believe me, I'd much rather see Miranda than the one who shall not be named.

  • Rent or sell the house

This is not totally off topic, but I'm going to tap into my practical side for a moment. If Callie fixes up the house she is going to have an immediate expenditure of $10,000 for a new septic tank. To recover that money from rent would take a considerable amount of time. She would have to sell the house for her too be able to fund her studies. There also could be other repairs needed to the house becuse it is at least 17 years old. Florida weather can be brutal on a house. My Mom and Dad lived in Crystal River Florida for over twenty years and that house was always needing something. In any case I too want them in Jim's house as a family, and Callie working with Carlos. Let;s keep our fingers crossed for a reasonable outcome to our wishes. Oh! And margi get well and run a good race.

Good points. I prefer her selling her house too. And Jim has such a great house, who wouldn't want to live in it? Come to think of it, since ep 1 of this season, they've been setting up Jim proposing and Jim acting like a husband in her house already; looking for her phone, grilling, plunging her kitchen sink, the septic tank issue. And Callie's been relying on Jim more; letting him deal with the septic tank, looking for her phone, calling him while in Atl., and asking his advice & later asking if what she's wearing is ok. Then you have Jeff having a key to Jim's house, and asking Jim for money for soccer camp. Already a family! Now we just have to get them in the same house together!

Yesssss.......I'd much rather watch J/C/J working through the intricacies of becoming a family unit as the background of Jim's ingenious case solving than watch him chase different T&A every week. What richness could be added with new friends and family introduced rather than just referenced. That would leave the writers free to make the cases more interesting and less formulaic. Let's have a bit of variance in the "3 suspects, 2 interrogations, 1 red herring" and "It wasn't me, detective" and the i-room door opening and Colleen/Carlos/Daniel saying "Jim, you need to see this!" This GREATensemble cast is capable of so much more, and I think I read somewhere that Jim having to talk so much in each epi must be quite a load for Matt. But I digress....yes, contourguy your insight that selling the house would be best,as well as providing the solution to her tuition problem is dead on. Good point. The writers did good in making it so serious a plumbing problem that a decision has to be made. And thanks for the good wishes; I'll give it my best shot!

I love this! Margi, you bring up a good point; Jim has mentioned he has a sister, but we know nothing of Callie's family background. I would love to meet the other members of their families. Maybe with a wedding, that can happen. So, will Jeff be best man, or will it be Carlos? And will Miranda be maid of honor?

Yes, I agree. Sell Callie's house. They should definitely move in with Jim. As far as who would be best man...my money is on Carlos. I see Jeff walking his mom down the isle, unless they do introduce parents for Callie. Although they didn't say which Grandma Jeff was being watched over by, my guess it was that feisty one, Jodie. Callie's family might be too normal. Maybe the introduction of Jim's family would be more interesting, since he mentioned the combative relationship between his mom and sister. Whatever they decide, I hope it will be to give us more background on their personal sides, Not just Jim and Callie, but the other characters as well.

I'd also like to meet Jim's dad. Or at the very least, see what made Jim become the blunt, but brilliant detective that he is. And I'd like to meet Callie's mom. And Jeff's friend Kyle. And for goodness sake, can't Daniel finally have a girlfriend? Or Coleen have a boyfriend?

I would like to see them sell Callie's house too and I would like to see the introduction of ALL of the family members...I would like to see Callie's ideas for wedding dresses..although maybe the viewing audience would wonder why they're selling Callie's house or why she would be the one moving and packing up, etc??  It's sort of a huge tease wondering
