I expect that the map would show a neighborhood that looks more like this place. There is a lake, a few single family homes along the shore, a next row of homes across the street. A highway, which this one does not look like it has an off ramp like in the map. It does have winding streets and a pool, but the tennis courts are in the wrong place. It's not "IT" but I suspect if we do ever find a real place that matches with this map. It would look more like this than Village Homes.

It cannot be ignored, that:

I will point out another "commonality":

Was the child riding with them or the person they were looking for? Was this an episode on AE or cmt? They had a similar episode on AE one time where they had a child ride in their vehicle with them and no car seat.
Angel is right when she says they don't care and would have found a way to capitalize on it. They have all these baby mama's and daddy's, exes, kids in different places, tv show, traveling, photo shoots, trips to Vegas, CO, CA, businesses etc How much time do you think they really put in

Great questions and things to think about! Here are my thoughts.
Desert areas wouldnt be likely since the lack of flowing water that the creeks seem to show. Also lack of trees and the somewhat sloped/hilly terrain the map suggests. Do you agree? Would that exclude foothill areas also?
I would tend to rule out a 'desert' area because to me the gridded roads indicate agriculture (albeit I know gajillions of water is diverted to CA). Also, the time peri
So where to take it from here?
Before just going out on flyovers of CA highways with Google earth,I have some suggestions as to finding this property as efficiently as possible. I suggest the best place to start is with the county planning offices of the jurisdictions where crimes and suspected crimes took place.
Modern county governments have websites just for GIS. GIS stands for geographic information systems -- a way of tying planning data to maps in layers e.g. zoning areas, land-use, et
TOPOGRAPHY CONCLUSIONS - IMO, this is def. not a flat site. I think the Highway (with exceptions for on & off ramps is on the high ground, and the property slopes down from left (high) to right (low). The water flows from the multi-gabled building down toward the pond. I think there is a good chance that the main rectangular retail area is built on high ground/ artificially augmented high ground. I believe that the strip between the Service Alley and the back of the neighborho
